- Bring it to the in-home assessment so you can fill it in as the contractor walks you through the scope
- After all estimates are in, lay the three side-by-side and look for gaps before you look at price
- Email any contractor whose estimate is missing line items and ask them to revise — a real contractor will, every time
- Use the red-flag sidebar to eliminate any quote that hits a dealbreaker, regardless of price
